there seems to be a few great songs that havnt been covered by any other band apart from the original band and i was wondering if there is a reason for this be that copyright of just that the bands wont do then for what-ever reason the main song that come to mind is hughs lives on it is very popular i have asked for it at many rebel nites and no band seems to want to play it

Bands have their own reportoire so they cover the songs they have in their 50 or so set list. They have practised them so they know how to play them best so they stick to them and the vast majority in every bands list include the ones everyone likes and are familiar with ie. Sean South, Boys of the old Brigade, Go on Home.

I agree Hughes Lives on is a classic and should be recorded more, however there are 100s of rebel songs which are only recorded once and never again. I try to research songs and i have found stacks of songs about rebels however i cannot get the music with it even though i have the lyrics. It's a shame like.

Bands will play the exact same set list the vast majority of the time as they travel it might be tedious to people who follow them but when they come to these places they probably have not heard the band in ages so the tracklist won't be as boring.

Or like Shebeen where i heard them in various places tend to pick songs which have a copnnection where they play. They always finish off with george and pop in Derry but once when i asked alan to playu in the devinsh belfast, he said he won't do Derry songs.

Other songs which should be recorded more include: My Little armalite, rifles of the IRA, Eamon Lafferty.

One final note: The Irish brigade's list of tapes and cds include ample stuff that has been recorded just by them. Brilliant songs - should be used more.

Sure the fecking wolfe tones not only play the same reportire they also tell the same jokes, have the songs in the same order and the worst thing..................... their music is computerised too.Their fecking 'you'll never beat the irish cd, is terrible. The songs are not the worst but the computerised music takes away the folk feel. By the way 'tis computerised live too and not just on cd tracks as ye all ready know.

Wasn't it the whole computerised music thing that caused the Tones to split?

Think it was to do with Derek signing a contract for the Wolfe Tones not to record any CDs again, and just to tour. Think the other 3 were very happy.

Derek Warfield do a ot of Sinn Fein dos these days. I went up to listen to Irish Brigade and Derek last yar in the Millineuim Forum, Iris Brigade were as usal were great however Derek Warfield never turned up .

The Wolfe Tones after 'youll never beat the Irish' have recorded about 6 cds. The same stuff is repeated and repeated and repeated gain again and again. The toubles brought out a few new recordings of old songs but thats it. It is a shame, sin , unmorally justified to the people they sing songs about like..........James Connolly when ticket sales are 20 quid and they release the same stuff over and over again. How can the working class afford these cds and the stuff on them are recorded in other CDs? It's a disgrace!

Their latest wans about the Easter Rising anniversary and Plantinum Collection (silver coated wans) are again totally terrible.

I HOPE THAT PEOPLE STAY CLEAR AWAY FROM THESE CDs AS THE WOLFE TONES THINK THEY ARE CONNING EVERYONE......................WE ARE NOT THA STUPID!!!

i agree with Derrylad regarding the tones..fantastic band in their day but the last 2 times i seen them in Derry they were shocking...exact same jokes before certain songs and people expected to sit down and then stand up whenever the tones tell them to,WERE NOT FUCKING DOGS...will never pay big money to go to one of their concerts again but will continue to listen to their old material which is excellant.

do u honestly thing that it is the wofle tones fault that u cant stand, its obesively the  venue the forum don't let u stand for insurrance reasons,if somebody falls and hurts themselves thats a claim against the place,so thats y they dont let u stand, ive seen the tones in scotland and they telling us to stand for every song apart from the slower songs eg joe mc donnell and all.

look all im saying that when they come to derry its always a great show, and the venue they play in is shit,it used to be far better when they played in the star dust, but the fact the forum is the only big venue in the city they really have no other option to play there, like they packed it for two nights again this year,it shows that people still love the tones.
